Overview
LIVAMED 1 (Pitavastatin Calcium) is a member of the blood cholesterol-lowering medication class of statins. Like other statins, it is an inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme that catalyses the first step of cholesterol synthesis. It comes in pitavastatin calcium 1mg tablets that contain 1mg of pitavastatin calcium and excipients.
Pitavastatin Mechanism of Action
Pitastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for the first step in the synthesis of cholesterol. By blocking this pathway, the liver is stimulated to absorb more low density lipoprotein (LDL) from the circulation, thereby dropping their levels in the blood. Pitavastatin has also been found to increase the quantity of HDL more than other statins and does not interfere with oral hypoglycemic agents.
